The Women Who Empower Leadership Program at Northeastern University

Positioning science and engineering students for success at the executive level

Calling all future C-suite executives in science and engineering! Women Who Empower is launching a brand-new program at Northeastern designed to ensure that all people have a seat at the table—specifically, the leadership table.

There is no doubt that some individuals face obstacles and challenges when they aspire to top-level leadership positions. The Women Who Empower Leadership Program was developed to surmount these inequities and position undergraduate students at Northeastern for success at the C-level in engineering, science, and related industries. This selective program, which accepts 20 applicants per cohort, prepares undergraduate students to flourish in their professions and ascend the ladder to success.

During an immersive and enlightening eight weeks—while participants simultaneously work at their co-op jobs—the Women Who Empower Leadership Program offers educational sessions, mentoring, and experiential learning to help participants cultivate their inner leaders, giving them real-world tools to advance in the workplace.

Who is Eligible?

The goal of the Women Who Empower Leadership Program is to enable participants to cultivate the professional and interpersonal skills necessary to become successful and inclusive leaders. Participants can then apply the skills learned in the leadership program to their co-op experience. The specifications for admittance to this exclusive program are as follows:

  • The program is limited to College of Engineering and College of Science students on Northeastern’s Boston campus
  • Applicants should be undergraduates and must be currently on co-op during the spring 2025 semester
  • Applicants should have a strong desire to attain leadership positions in their industries after graduation, and should be dedicated to pursuing the skills to do so
A Rich Learning Environment

Undergraduate students in the Women Who Empower Leadership Program will receive training in the interpersonal skills necessary to advance within their professional environments, navigate the intricacies of company culture, and foster an inclusive mindset among their peers. This program is designed based on the Engineering Leadership Capabilities program developed by Northeastern’s Gordon Institute of Engineering Leadership, and will serve as the foundation to evaluate students’ strengths and identify areas for their growth.

Topics covered during the Women Who Empower Leadership Program are as follows:

    Befriending Your Fear of Failure

Tackling Imposter Syndrome and Leading Effectively
    While Navigating Workplace Bias

Taking Ownership of Personal Career Advancement
    and Navigating Leadership Potential
